The Student Teacher

Recently, in a conversation with a friend, something was mentioned about my profession of me being a teacher and that I should have schooled them. Even though I wanted to shove an apple in their mouth, it got me thinking. See, it is human tendency to perceive that everything we know makes us wiser, but every life event indoctrinates us in some way. The paradox is that all people, including teachers, are students. Ultimately you are always sitting in a desk growing your database of knowledge in the classroom of life.

Teachers are supposed to have a certain set of skills that are bestowed on their students. By definition, educators can improve their trade making them practitioners of education. This catch 22 is humbling to the human experience since no individual is ever all knowing. Part of living is understanding that there is always more that we do not know; it is expecting the unexpected and anticipating that which has not happened yet. Nothing in this life is certain but uncertainty so having a willingness to embrace the unascertained allows for opportunities to maximize one’s quality of life. Never lose the spark to fuel your existence with purpose and turn on the lightbulb that rests between your ears and controls your being.
